Eruptions by the Summit and the Sea

Unparalleled events are occurring at Kilauea Volcano: simultaneous flank and summit eruptions. The amazing experience of coastal lava viewing can now be combined with a visit to the summit to witness the new eruptive activity in the Kilauea caldera that is puzzling the world’s foremost volcanologists.

Hawaiian Walkways is offering -- for the unknown duration of these spectacular occurrences -- an exciting and informative tour with an experienced naturalist guide allowing you to see volcanic eruptions both at the summit and the sea in one day!

We’ll meet guests at Borders in Hilo at 9 a.m. providing transport and engaging narration for the 30-mile drive to the summit of Kilauea and the headquarters of Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park.  Seeing the day’s eruptive activity and some of the remarkable features of this World Heritage Site will take us to lunch time. After a delicious meal, we’ll depart for the coastal lava flow; the details of timing will vary somewhat with the events on site. Between 2:30 and 4:00 we will experience the phenomena of the lava-viewing area.  Guests will be returned to the meeting place in Hilo by 5 p.m., ending a day to remember always!
